Hydraulic loader crane operator course
We prepare you and your employees for the safe, independent operation of the hydraulic loader crane (HDS). You will learn to stabilise the rig, control the boom, load and unload safely and handle common faults. Theory online or in person, combined with hands-on practice on the equipment.

What a hydraulic loader crane is and what the course covers
A hydraulic loader crane (commonly known by the abbreviation HDS) is a hydraulic loading crane, usually mounted on the chassis of a goods vehicle or on a fixed installation, used for loading, unloading and moving loads. It is a lifting device and its operation is higher-risk work that may only be carried out by a trained and prepared person.
The hydraulic loader crane operator course is professional training that prepares you for the safe operation of a loading crane. It combines theoretical preparation with practical training and is intended for workers in transport, construction, municipal services and maintenance, as well as employers who want their operators to be professionally prepared. The comprehensive course for other types of cranes is on the lifting equipment and crane operator course page; slinging and suspending of loads alone is covered by the load-slinger course.
Who the course is for
The course is aimed at the individual who wishes to obtain a qualification for operating a hydraulic loader crane and improve their employment prospects, as well as at the company that wants its lifting equipment operated by professionally prepared workers.
For the individual
Completing the hydraulic loader crane operator course is a sought-after qualification with haulage operators, construction companies and in municipal and maintenance operations. A goods vehicle driver with HDS who has completed the course is at an advantage in the labour market — operating a loading crane is higher-risk work that may only be carried out by a trained person.
For the company and employer
As an employer you want the assurance that your lifting equipment is operated only by trained and prepared workers. Training is tied to a specific person, not the company — so every worker who operates the hydraulic loader crane should complete the course.
What you will learn on the course
The course draws on the safety requirements for the operation of a hydraulic loader crane and consists of theoretical preparation, practical training and a final knowledge assessment. The scope is always tailored to the specific equipment your company actually uses.
Theoretical part
You cover the construction and controls of the hydraulic loader crane, the hydraulic system and its safety elements, technical parameters (load capacity, outreach and their interrelation, stability of the assembly) and risks specific to a loading crane — load fall, overturning due to insufficient stabilisation, contact with power lines and endangering persons within the jib's reach.
Practical training
Participants practise vehicle positioning and stabilisation (extension and underpinning of outriggers), the pre-use daily check, working with the centre of gravity and radius during loading and unloading, safe slinging and suspending of the load and the procedure in the event of a fault. We place emphasis on maintaining visual contact with the load and observing safe movement zones.
- Daily check: hydraulic system, tightness, outriggers, safety elements and slinging equipment.
- Equipment tests: familiarisation with functional and load tests and their significance for safe operation.
- Loading and unloading: the effect of outreach on load capacity, stability of the assembly, safe placement of the load.
- Emergency situations: procedure in the event of a fault, loss of stability or approach to power lines.
How the course works
The entire process is led by our team — from the first contact through to successful completion of the course in five steps.
Enquiry You contact us by phone or email and provide the basic details — the number of participants, the type and load capacity of the hydraulic loader crane and the location where you need the training.
Scheduling We agree a date and the scope of the training based on the equipment you actually use and send you the form for the medical fitness assessment.
Training at your premises The instructor delivers the theoretical preparation directly at your premises — the construction and controls of the hydraulic loader crane, vehicle stabilisation, risks, pre-use checks and safe loading and unloading procedures.
Practical training and knowledge verification Participants practise practical operation on the specific equipment and at the end we verify their professional knowledge.
Issue of the certificate After completion you receive a certificate of course completion. We also notify you of the refresher familiarisation interval and the renewal of the medical examination.
Hydraulic loader crane and other lifting equipment
A hydraulic loader crane is one type of lifting equipment. To help you understand which course you need for your machinery, we summarise the related training.
When you need a different course
If you also operate a mobile or tower crane of the jib type, comprehensive preparation is found in the lifting equipment and crane operator course. If your workers only sling and suspend loads, their qualification is covered by the load-slinger course.

Stručná odpoveď
The hydraulic loader crane operator course prepares operators of a hydraulic loader crane (HDS) for safe work. It combines theory with practical training, and on completion you receive a certificate of course completion. The course is intended for goods vehicle drivers with HDS and for companies that want their operators to be professionally prepared.
Časté otázky – Hydraulic loader crane (HDS)
A hydraulic loader crane is a hydraulic loading crane (HDS), usually mounted on a vehicle, used for loading and unloading loads. It is a lifting device and its operation is higher-risk work — there is a risk of load fall and overturning. It may therefore only be carried out by a trained and prepared person.
The course is needed by everyone who actually operates a hydraulic loader crane — goods vehicle drivers with HDS, workers in construction, transport, municipal services and maintenance. Training is tied to a specific person, not the company, so every worker who operates the equipment should complete the course.
The course combines theory with practical training. You cover the construction and controls of the hydraulic loader crane, vehicle stabilisation, the pre-use daily check, the effect of outreach on load capacity and safe loading and unloading procedures. You also learn the correct procedure in the event of a fault and loss of stability.
You must be at least 18 years old and medically fit to operate lifting equipment. Before the course we send you the form for the medical fitness assessment.
Refresher familiarisation of operators is required at least once every three years (36 months). During it, operators are familiarised with current knowledge on safe operation. For your company we can monitor these intervals and remind you in good time.
A hydraulic loader crane is a type of loading crane. If you also operate a bridge, gantry or jib crane, see the comprehensive course on the lifting equipment and crane operator course page; slinging and suspending of loads alone is covered by the load-slinger course.
The hydraulic loader crane operator course concerns only the safe operation of the loading crane. Driving the vehicle on which the hydraulic loader crane is mounted is governed by separate regulations on driving licences and is not part of this course.
