Fire Equipment Inspection (fire extinguishers and hydrants)

At least once every 24 months for a portable fire extinguisher and once every 12 months for a mobile one – unless the manufacturer specifies a shorter period in the instructions. This follows from § 9 ods. 4 and 5 of Decree No. 347/2022 Coll. Since most manufacturers state an interval of 12 months in the instructions, in practice an annual inspection becomes binding – which is why we recommend it, to avoid sanctions and disputes in the event of an insurance claim. We inspect a mobile CO2 extinguisher once every 12 months. We can arrange an appointment at your premises within 5 working days.

The pressure test of a fire extinguisher container is carried out according to the manufacturer's instructions and the special regulation for pressure equipment (Decree No. 508/2009 Coll.) – there is no single flat statutory period. In common practice, manufacturers set an interval of approximately 3 years for water and foam extinguishers and approximately 5 years for the rest. At least once every 12 months. The inspection of equipment for the supply of water for firefighting after it has been put into use is laid down by § 15 ods. 2 of Decree No. 699/2004 Coll. We inspect internal wall-mounted, external underground and above-ground hydrants, including measuring the pressure and the functionality of the water supply. Fire hoses are tested for functionality by a pressure test according to a technical standard (e.g. STN 92 0801) pursuant to § 14 ods. 4 of the same decree. The price of a hydrant inspection is from €10/unit.

We mark a non-compliant extinguisher as non-functional and propose repair or replacement. During the repair we can supply a replacement operational extinguisher, so that the fire safety of the operation is not reduced and you are not left without cover. Minor shortcomings (adding a seal, label or gasket) we handle on the spot. You receive a record of every step, so that you have demonstrably met the obligation to keep fire equipment in operational condition.

A district directorate of the Fire and Rescue Corps may impose a fine of up to €16,596 on a company (a legal entity or a self-employed natural person) for failing to ensure the regular inspection of fire equipment under § 59 ods. 2 písm. a) of Act No. 314/2001 Coll. For failing to carry out a preventive fire-safety inspection there is a further fine of up to €8,298 (§ 59 ods. 1). A natural person may be fined up to €99, €165 or €331 for an offence (§ 61), and up to €100 in summary proceedings (§ 62 ods. 2). Regular inspection is therefore cheaper than the risk of a fine.

You receive an inspection protocol/record (a valid document for the State Fire Supervision of the Fire and Rescue Corps and for the insurer) and an inspection label with a seal placed on the equipment. The records form part of the fire protection documentation and we keep a register of them. From a practical standpoint, we recommend keeping the documents for at least several years for the purposes of an inspection and an insurance claim; we will set the specific period according to your documentation and can keep it for you too.

The inspections are carried out by appointed certified fire protection technicians and certified inspection technicians, under the professional leadership of the managing director Dávid Jamriška (safety technician, fire protection technician, VTZ inspection technician; National Labour Inspectorate authorisation No. VVZ-0063/22-01.1). On the equipment you therefore always know who signed off the inspection and with what authorisation – which is important for the validity of the document vis-à-vis the Fire and Rescue Corps and the insurer.

No. Decree No. 719/2002 Coll. was repealed and replaced by [Decree No. 347/2022 Coll.](https://www.zakonypreludi.sk/zz/2022-347) with effect from 1 January 2023. If, when inspecting fire extinguishers, a provider still cites 719/2002, they are working with a repealed regulation – and that may be a signal that they do not have an up-to-date professional grounding. We cite the valid wording and issue documents in accordance with current legislation.

Regular operability inspection is a statutory obligation of the operator of the building – companies, offices, warehouses, production premises, shops and other operations that have fire extinguishers, hydrants, EPS, dampers or other fire equipment installed.
