Education and training for operation of selected forestry machines and equipment

The course covers selected forestry machines listed in Annex No. 1a písm. s) of Act No. 124/2006 Coll.: skidders, universal and special tractors (UKT/LKT) for timber skidding, wheeled and tracked forwarders, fixed cable transport equipment and single-purpose machines used in forestry. We adapt the scope of the training to the machines your employees actually operate.

After successful verification of professional knowledge, each participant obtains a record of completed education and training of operating personnel under § 16 ods. 1 písm. b) of Act No. 124/2006 Coll. (unlike a crane operator or a load slinger, who receive a licence card). The record is issued by a person authorised to provide education and training and proves authorisation during a labour-inspectorate check.

No. The operation of a hand-held chainsaw is not among forestry machines — the chainsaw is in Annex No. 1a písm. t) of Act No. 124/2006 Coll. and requires a separate licence card (for logging or for other activities), not a record. Lumberjacks therefore need a separate chainsaw operation course.

The record is issued by a person authorised to provide education and training (a training organisation authorised by the National Labour Inspectorate), not by the labour inspectorate. The labour inspectorate only withdraws the record in the event of a serious breach of regulations under § 16 ods. 11 of Act No. 124/2006 Coll.

Under Decree No. 356/2007 Coll., the basic professional training has a duration of at least 16 hours (qualification group 10.1). For company groups, we adapt the organisation and dates to your operation.

Under § 16 ods. 2 a 4 of Act No. 124/2006 Coll., a participant must be at least 18 years old and demonstrate medical fitness by a medical assessment no older than six months. The assessment is issued on the basis of a preventive medical examination in relation to the work. We verify these conditions when enrolling your group.

Under § 7 ods. 5 of Act No. 124/2006 Coll., refresher familiarisation is carried out at least once every three years. In addition, under § 16 ods. 8 the record holder is obliged to complete refresher professional training within five years (a duration of at least 6 hours) and to repeat it every five years. Familiarisation and refresher training are two separate obligations.

Under § 16 ods. 5 of Act No. 124/2006 Coll., the record is issued for an indefinite period. It becomes invalid if the holder does not undergo a preventive medical examination (within 5 years, § 16 ods. 6), fails to complete refresher professional training (within 5 years, § 16 ods. 8) or has the record withdrawn (§ 16 ods. 12).

For the operation of machinery (construction, agricultural, forestry), a record of completed education and training is issued under § 16 ods. 1 písm. b) of Act No. 124/2006 Coll. A licence card or certificate (písm. a) is issued for other activities — for example a crane operator, a load slinger, forklift trucks or a chainsaw. Colloquially the record is also called a “machine operator's card”, but its official name is a record.

Under § 19 of Act No. 125/2006 Coll., an employer faces a fine of up to EUR 100 000, and for a serious breach from EUR 1 000 to 200 000. If the breach results in an occupational accident causing serious harm to health, the fine is at least EUR 20 000, and in the case of death at least EUR 33 000. The record is tied to a specific person.

Under Slovak rules, the course focuses on theoretical professional training and knowledge verification; the employee acquires practical operation of a specific machine through hands-on training directly at the employer. A record issued under Slovak regulations is valid throughout the territory of the Slovak Republic. For work abroad, recognition of the qualification is governed by the rules of the given state and the employer's requirements, so we recommend checking the specific conditions.

The course focuses on theoretical knowledge of health and safety when operating selected forestry machines, on the related legal regulations and on the principles of safe work. It includes a final verification of professional knowledge (a written test and an oral examination), on the basis of which a record of completed education and training is issued under Decree No. 356/2007 Coll.
